Who else would be top 5 if not JND? I am not interested in their licenses, but the quality of their products still amazes me everytime.

A lot of collectors don’t really consider JND pieces the most artistic of pieces in this hobby.


I’ll preface this by saying that they are some of the most elegant of pieces. Their prototype to production quality is probably second to none, and their face sculpts of actors are amongst the best in the industry.


Obviously to create said pieces, they require artists to create everything they produce, but more often than not, they are duplicating what has already been produced. Either by what we’ve seen on screen (which is obviously what we want more or less) or by other producers. Which is definitely not easy, and has been steadily improving over the years. Outside of level of quality, there’s not much to differentiate many movie based collectables as most are in museum type poses nowadays. Just look at the three 1/3 scale MP Catwoman statues. They’re all pretty similar, because they’re based on the same limited source material and that obviously limits their scope and in the end the freedom of their artists.


Whereas for many comic based pieces, the sky is the limit (at least in comparison to movie based pieces). Their artists are somewhat free to have their own interpretations of famous IP and put their own spin of them; and also to put them in extreme and existing poses. Movie pieces are hamstrung somewhat by their source material and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

JND needs to work on likeness of their pieces before being named the worlds best artists. Most of their pieces at 70% likeness of the actors is not close enough to being good enough for the price they charge. It’s shocking to me how many people have their blinders on and roll with it.
