Climax (2018) - French dancers gather in a remote, empty school building to rehearse on a wintry night. The all-night celebration morphs into a hallucinatory nightmare when they learn their sangria is laced with LSD.

Not all of director Gaspar NoƩ's movies may be good, but all I've seen have been provocative. This one starts slowly with character interviews which set up the relentless ride that is the frightening LSD freakout in the second half of the film. 8/10

King Kong (1933) - 9/10

Unbelievable how well this movie holds up. It's perfect. My only gripe with it is just how suddenly it ends. Kong falls (is murdered) & Denham utters the final line. The End.

This just had to be Star Wars/Avengers of its time. I can't imagine anyone in 1933 not wanting to go & see this. It also played right dab-smack-in-the-middle of The Universal Monster renaissance. What a time for fantastic movies.

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

No. I watched on TCM-On-Demand. Honestly, for a cable company that proclaims itself a warrior for classic film & letterbox versions of movies, this version was choppy & perfectly square. I've seen it on the big screen in all it's glory (years ago), but this version was a far cry from a theatrical release version.

I don't know about the choppiness you're referring to, but the original aspect ratio is 1.37:1, so it should be pretty square.

The theatrical release was censured. They had to remove the sceness where King Kong stomped on the natives and stuck natives in his mouth.
