I just ordered/paid through his website (the link is in his twitter bio). I didnt hear anything until I got the email that they shipped a few weeks later!
So if you get worried not hearing from an artist, might not be the way to go. If you're pretty chill about such things (like me), go for it. I really like them. They are slightly more vibrant in person, my phone is pulling a lot of yellow out in pics these days.

I only get concerned if there is an expectation and then silence. I have an outstanding commission I placed in September and was told one month and it still hasn't been completed. If Uminga is reliable and takes a month or so it sounds like a good deal to me.

I ordered mine and didn't hear anything--not even a shipping email. It just showed up one day. I couldn't be happier with it though. I'm tempted to get another one from him.

As for mine, I did not hear anything until I received a message that my order was shipped a few weeks later. He does really good work though, and I agree with the assessment, he is very talented.
