The DEATH of a great story arc!

I am not sure EXACTLY when this happened...but it is sad to see. Rather than placing a great story WITHIN the comic book it belongs in, Marvel just makes a stand alone mini series, and puts out crap issues of the monthly title!

THIS is why DAREDEVIL and CAPTAIN AMERICA have been such good reads lately...the superior stories are being told WITHIN the monthly series...Imagine if, instead, they put out a "CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER" 6 issue mini series AND put out the monthly Cap book! I am shocked they didnt do it actually. The most blatent example of this in recent history was Phoenix:Endsong, and House of M. Those stories didnt HAVE to be seperate titles, and would have worked well within their own originating series!

It seems like the old House of Ideas really doesnt have any long term ones...and when they get a good 4-5 issue idea, they just make a mini out of it, and count on the TPB sales as well.

Thats just my little rant of the day. I miss GOOD , ON-GOING, On-TIME monthly storytelling!

You called this one. It's called marketing: how to sell more product through brand extensions. As a marketing exec of the last nearly 20 years, I understand the business rationale for this but, as a comics fan it disgusts me.

Phoenix Endsong and Colossus Bloodlinew ould have made great regular parts of the on-going series.

The main problem with these were they would have delayed their "mega" evetns that are unfortnately dominating the x-titles, house of M and DeciMation to be exact.

What about the new wolverine series set to run alongside the regular wolvie series?!

It just doesn't make sense, although the reason is clear.

X-MEN=MONEY

MORE TITLES WITH X-MEN=LOTS MORE MONEY

GULLIBLE X-FANS SHELLING OUT A FOTUNE=SMILE ON JOE Q'S FACE

Yep, one of the reasons I stopped buying monthlies. If all of the great (or semi-great) stories are saved for the limited series, then why should I buy the crappy monthly title with the second-rate stories? And when those mini-series are usually intended for trade collections a few months later, why even buy the monthly issues of the limited series?

I still love buying monthlies though. If you buy two or three trades a week, .ike toxie does, I'm not sure how you are saving money.

with the rise in cost of comics and this type of thing, you will continue to see more people stop buying monthlies or cut back dramtically
