Borrow money from a pessimist, they don't expect it back.

Thanos-guy wiped out half the universe because he loves a girl and wants to impress her. That takes a level of devotion, insanity, and freakish psychotic madness that scares the hell out of me.

On the other hand I don't know if that takes him from the villain category and puts him into the kind of sad and pathetic range.

To me Red Skull and The Joker are the most "Realistic" and Scary to me.

Purple man is terrifying, the ability to make someone do whatever you want them to against your will is scary.

Anyone who has read Alias will know what I mean.

Totally agree. Purple Man, in that series, was terrifying.

Any of Apocalypse new horsemen especially Sanjar Javeed. The Joker, Scarecrow, Proteus, Parasite.

Omni-Man (Invincible's father) was a scary villain; he posed as Earth's "Superman" for decades before finally expressing his intentions to subjugate the human race (with his invasion force), after single-handedly wiping out Earth's heroes, with only his son left to stand in his way.

But.. yeah.. Red Skull's still the worst.
