So he didn't mention Killer Croc by name. From that one cannot assume that he knows nothing of the Batman mythos or never read the comic. The article says nothing of the background of the executive producers or writers. Plus TV shows like this will have executive producers from DC and WB whose job is to help steer the production (for better or worse). Much like what Kevin Fiege does for the Marvel cinematic universe.
Look at Marvel's Agent of Shield. Showrunners are Joss Whedon's brother and his brother's wife. Plus Joss is a producer. They have all the Marvel resources they needed, but it still turned into a steaming pile.
I'll give Gotham a few episodes to see how they do. I just hope for Gotham that they enlisted some good writers.
