Superman Cooke style, need advice. NL

This is going to be my first real attempt at creating a statue.
I've done some sculting with cheap DAS clay, but the stuff is hard to work with.
If there are any dutch folk here who could give me some advice on what clay I should use for this. (Prev without baking).

And now my other question, is this the right positioning for the wire?
The size is going to be simulair to that of the JL maquettes (the big ones).
