Review: Sideshow Darth Maul 1:1 bust

Sideshow Darth Maul 1:1 scale bust review.

First off, I am not a fan of the Star Wars prequel movies. The only characters I liked from them were Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. I did not enjoy AOTC or ROTS at all...not even one sequence.

Now, the only part of TPM I really liked was the Duel of the Fates sequence. I loved John Williams score to it and thought it was an incredible lightsaber battle. Ray Park really made it happen with his martial arts skills. The entire battle is just great to watch, especially on a nice home theater with the sound cranked.

That said, I placed an order months ago for the Sideshow Darth Maul bust. I was a bit worried from some of the first pictures that were posted here. The eyes looked really bad and the paint app did not look too detailed. (not the best pics were posted)

However, I received the Sideshow Darth Maul bust today. All I can say is it was EASILY worth the wait!

As soon as I opened the box, I noticed how real this piece looks. The likeness is PERFECT.

It's very well sculpted and the paint job is one of the best I have seen from Sideshow.

I was worried the eyes would not look real. However, they are very well done. Glass eyes still would have been better but would have made the piece cost even more money.

The horns are very well sculpted and also painted great.

I was worried the teeth would be lacking but again, they look great and have plenty of detail.

What I really love about this piece is Sideshow also includes a hood that can be placed on Maul! I love the look with it and without it.

The base is also very nice and simple. The nameplate looks really good being red and black, like Maul.

The packaging from Sidehshow was great as usual.

This piece is easily worth the full $600!

Overall I give this piece 10 out of 10 stars!

It's very realistic.

Here are the pictures:

Sideshow details:
Sideshow Collectibles, in association with Spectral Motion, presents the life-size Darth Maul bust, first in a series of 1:1 Star Wars busts. Darth Maul's menacing tattooed visage snarls from under a dark hood, mounted on a mechanical Star Wars inspired base, complete with nameplate. Each piece is hand crafted and hand painted, and completed with an authentic partial replica of the costume worn by Ray Park. The Darth Maul Life-Size Bust is the perfect centerpiece for any collection, home theater, or office.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Looks great!
However the lightsaber duel between Anakin and Obi-wan in ROTS was much better
than the Darth Maul fight with Obi and Qui-Gon.

Nice review Gruson. Not a collector of 1:1 busts but this looks good. I wouldn't have given it 10 because of the eyes which are not detailed enough for a 1:1 piece IMO.

Great sculpt!

Too bad the character didn't have more to do in the prequels.
