Even better than Navy SEALs?
I don't care for Walberg. How much does his sucking detract from it?

I like Mark Wahlberg so I don't think I can really answer that question.

I enjoyed it but would not mark it as high as a 9. I felt it lost some of the impact in the last 1/4. I am always a little proud when yet another Irish American is awarded the Congresssional Medal of Honour though. I think I scored it a 7/10.

If you pretend that you don't like him, how much is he annoying you right now? I love Boogie Nights and his crappy acting almost helps the movie. I enjoyed The Shooter for the most part, but he was so wooden it didn't distract me too much.

Having just seen it I may have been a bit generous with my rating due to the impact it had on me. Definitely between an 8 and 9 for me though.
As for the last 1/4 of the film, I can see why some might say that. I saw it a bit differently though. It drove home the point that while it's sometimes easy to paint a people/culture with the same brush we have to be careful not to as good/compassionate people exist in all walks of life.

Well again, it's hard to pretend he annoys me when he doesn't as I enjoy most of his films. I thought Shooter was crap though, and that had nothing to do with his acting.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I think for me it was more that the last 1.4 relied on Marks ability to act. In a more capable actor it would not have lost the impact for me. And I like a lot of Marks work but would not rate him as an actors actor.

12 Years a Slave - 4/5
Powerful stuff, great acting, especially from Fassbender.

My rationale for ignoring it was that all the corny made for kiddie jokes would be torture, but I've seen too many good reviews online to ignore this any further.
