Just picked up & read the quite good Dynamite' Red Sonja 1973 thick-comic. It's $8, which is a lot for a one-shot, but it's good & worth the price if you're into the character & have a little loose change in your pocket. Supposedly, it's themed with a 70's slant in mind, but I didn't really find it purposely dated. The 6 short stories included were all pretty bloody & well written, all self-contained, & the art on each one was great. We've hit a dry spell on sword 'n sorcery comics of late, so this comic will scratch that itch. WeirdWorld 2 comes out next week. Can't wait.

WeirdWorld #2 just keeps building on top of the excellent 1st issue. Chock full of Sword 'n Sorcery goodness ... along with a special guest star from Marvel 70's/80's.
hint, hint -

No way! Is it actually him, or some non-trademarked facsimile?
Or is he owned by Marvel... I forget.

I assume so. Aaron really went mining to come up w/ Crystar as a minor character. I salute him for it. & he's quite a bad-a$$ in this ish.

Just read a few preview pages. Too cool!
Okay, I'm definitely interested in this series now. I will be sure to pick up the collected edition (already solicited for 12/23).

So Weirdworld 3 hit today & I ripped open & read it. Wow!!! So, I was wrong, a little, it wasn't Crystar in the last issue ... but another of the Crystal Warriors from his series, a guy called Warbow. He must have been a supporting hero from the original series, but Crystar is sort of here, is mentioned & could possibly make a huge appearance in an upcoming issue. (anyone remember Warbow?)

Weirdworld continues in it's kick-assness. This is a tight, fun, homage book with Aaron & Mundo just doing some really fun things. There is a another, great blast-from-the-past guest star in issue 3. No names, but here's a pic. from his 70's greatness. This is what I mean ... Aaron's really mining old Marvel for some great, fighting, warriors. - All updated as total bada$$es of course, all wild, fun choices.

Oh yeah, I remember Warbow. I checked out Issue #2 where he was looking at Arkon through the hole in the wall. I had assumed it was Crystar, based on our earlier discussion, but once I saw who it really was, I thought "well of course we'd only see one eye!" That was a nice bit of misdirection.

July 2016 - Dark Horse will reprint DC's adaptations of the Fafhrd & Gray Mouser stories from the '70s. Written by Denny O'Neil, with art by Chaykin, Simonson, Starlin... a must-have!

The trade paperback shown in your post is a collection of a 4-issue Marvel/Epic series written by Howard Chaykin and illustrated by Mike Mignola.
The trade paperback I mentioned is a collection of a 6-issue DC series titled "Sword of Sorcery" from the '70s. Chaykin was the primary artist on that one. He must like these characters.
The title "Sword of Sorcery" was used not too long ago for a 12-issue series featuring Amethyst and a revamped version of Beowulf. DC has brought back some of their other fantasy characters over the years (Stalker, Claw, Nightmaster), so I'm up for a collection of their original fantasy titles from the '70s. Those were fun.
