i noticed today at the shop, 9.8 condition books are tough to find these days. i know there are literally thousands of 9.8s, but, next time you're at your LCS, look at the condition of a LOT of books coming straight from the distributors every week. so many books are dinged or messed up somehow (not 9.8) right out of the box. makes me appreciate the 9.8s (or better) a little more.

Checked some grades updated on CGC today, all 3 of my signature books from Amazing Arizona con were graded 9.8. 2 of them are Walking Dead books, but the 3rd is a New Mutants #98 that I cracked the 9.8 slab, had Liefeld sign, and then resubmitted. Of course I was nervous that I could jack up a $400 comic in the process, but, turned out to be beneficial. These books should be here this week.

Man, I've been moving my Walking Dead stuff. The slabs fetch some seriously stupid money. Easiest money I've made in years. Looking forward to a profitable flip on this stuff coming in, especially the NM98.

Is it wise to slab?

There is oil in plastic, so won't it be counter productive to have your graded comics in a slab just for it to decompose slowly?

I have sent in about 500 books so far and have 600 currently being graded. Been very happy with results. Keeping 9.8 keys and selling off full runs at a good price ( double the cost to grade to start). I'm happy culling the volume and keeping the keys, and people are happy to pick up runs at a fair price . Win/ win for me.

I believe CGC recommends reslabbing 10-12 years. The do put the book and seal it with an inert gas prior to going into the hard case

I read in a CGC thread that they recommend re-slabbing every 7 years, but only to replace the micro-chamber paper. Otherwise, it's just like storing it in a fancy mylar. http://boards.collectors-society.com...t&Number=36825 Thread's a little old, but I imagine it's basically the same.

Haven't read anything about oils getting to the book. It's actually slipped into a mylar bag (if I remember right) then covered with the hard case, so I don't think oil would be a problem. ...Could be wrong.
