The last time I enjoyed a What If?-style story was Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe. Granted, it was the standard "everyone dies" scenario that whd mentioned, but Garth Ennis and Doug Braithwaite did a great job on it.

True, for the most part. And it's another reason why the old books are so much better.

Great book with a solid ending! There's nothing wrong with a having a good story where everybody dies!

The second issue of the Edge of Spider-Verse tells the story of what if Gwen was bitten instead of Peter. It got good reviews.
