I cannot get over the difference between the realistic environments and the goofy looking dinosaur.

I noticed that too. I also noticed that the dinosaur's it showed before the meteor misses the earth looked more realistic, but then they looked extremely cartoony after that. I'm sure the story telling will be very well done.
