Heroes Con, 2010, Jimmy Cheung is working the Heroes Initiative booth doing sketches for $40. I get to him and ask for Thanos. I get a deer in headlights look, which I often got (Avengers hadn't come out yet, so not everyone was a Thanos freak at that point). In any case, I had reference with me and got the below sketch.
Skip to 2013, Thanos is everywhere and Jimmy was drawing him in the Infinity storyline. I was lucky enough to pick up one of his nicer images of Thanos at NYCC for $600. Considering the hype and who I was dealing with, I was shocked it was so cheap. Sometimes it's just right time, right place with this stuff.

That Thanos page was a bargain! You also own the first Thanos sketch Coipel has ever drawn. That should be worth a mint! ;-)

Those are awesome Drew. I think prices shot up overall after that; published, commissions, all across the board. Jim was still doing $300 bust commissions on 11x14 at the time too.

Artists always choose Hulk over PH if given the choice I've found. Still, you're a lucky duck!

I agree TC, prices overall have just gone up. It's one of the main reasons I got away from commissions and stuck with OA; prices were pretty much on par with one another for a while. Why pay an artist $500 for a commission, not knowing if or when I would get it (and what it would end up looking like), when I could spend roughly the same amount on a published page which I got instantly and knew what I was getting? Of course, then these guys started charging 3x as much for their published stuff and I tapped out, LOL!

...and cashed in? Haha!
I keep telling myself published art is the way to go. And then I wake up and find another artist's art that I like and I find myself shooting them a message...

Reading this thread about Fabok reminds me I'm not only old in music but comics now too. I have no idea who he is, much like the current musicians.
