Not sure I'd want to drop $1k+ on a big Goku statue, when I can get tons of Banpresto PVCs that look every bit as detailed, for about a quarter of that.

The thing is massive ! According to the staff, there will be portraits for SSJ2 and normal Goku as well. The base lights up as well and the quality is outstanding.

After seeing it in person, comparing this statue to a Banpresto figure would be an insult to any statue collector.

I may very well end up getting this, but my initial reaction is one of disappointment and I want Prime 1 to understand why. For years now, we have had companies produce statues like the SS3 Goku Shenron 1/4 scale, which is still available btw for less than $500. And now, after years of hoping for a DBZ related release from a company that has a reputation of regularly outdoing its competitors and producing impeccable sculpts, Prime 1 comes out with something that will cost nearly twice as much, but have very similar quality and detail.

It's a shame. They could have at the very least gone into 1/3 scale to offer something no one else was. As for the detail, if they were able to give us those Ryu and Ken prototypes, they should not have had any difficulty doing Goku justice.

I wouldn't say the quality is similar. Seeing it in person really makes the difference. It's difficult to capture in photos but there is an incredible level of details in this statue. The whole tissue of the tunic is even textured as real fabric which is pretty rare on anime statues. You can see it a bit on the knee in my picture.

More images from Prime 1 FB page

The alternative SSJ3 head looks superb! Still, consider what Prime 1 has been doing recently with their DC line, they could have done so much more with this statue.
