Corgi gets into the act!
Just received e-newsletter from Corgi Toys that includes this news item:
Marvel Figures
Corgi has acquired the license from Marvel Entertainment, Inc. to produce exclusive high end collectible metal figurines of some of the hottest characters in the comic book world. Unlike the resin figures currently on the market, Corgi’s figures will be spin-cast metal with the attention to detail that Corgi has become recognized for over the last 49 years. With the first figures due out in the first half of 2006, the complete collection will be in 1:12 scale. (approximately 6 inches tall)

I've got a bunch of their die-cast trucks, and they do a nice job on them, so maybe these will look nice...

They've been doing a great line of comic book stlye Batmobiles (40's-2000's) for a little over a year now. Some styles I never thought I would see in a die-cast line. Great stuff!

Painted?
I wonder how much a "high-end" metal figure will cost. I'll keep an open mind and look forward to seeing how they look.
Bets on the first? I say Spidey or Cap.

Their Batmobiles ranged in price from $9.99 for 1:43 scale (around 3-4" long) to $29.99 for the large 1:18 scale (around 12-14" long). Pretty reasonably priced for a heavy, well-crafted chunk of fully-painted die-cast metal.
I can see 6" figures probably falling within that range. Guess we'll find out come spring.

Everything is being saved to display at Toyfair this month. After that I should be able to show everyone. If anyone is going to Toyfair in NY, go by the Corgi booth and see my concept drawings.
