I'm just not seeing it. The show just, for me, seems to be an amalgam of 80's films & tv shows mixed together & packaged for a new & unknowing audience. Salem's Lot, The Goonies, Poltergeist, ET, X-Files, Lost Boys, & more, all just kind of heavily borrowed from. I started watching w/ my kids but the undercurrent of sadness w/ Winonna's child being lost & her reactions, make it a little too intense for them. I'm hoping that the references are more homage then rip-off, but I'm not so sure. Nitpicky, but even the bikes the kids are riding are about 9 years out of date too. We rode bikes like that in the 70's, I didn't see any of them in the 80's.

Absolutely loved it.
The score and opening titles are so on-target.

Not seeing the hype with this show. Great for insomnia.

I'd say it's a good 8/10. I enjoyed it, but it's not perfect.

When I was watching it I felt it had that goonies vibe also... but of course a lot more serious and darker.... All those 80's movies you mentioned were rather cheesy, although I still loved them all
The bike I rode in the early 80's was my sister's left overs from the 70's , my parents were to cheap to buy me a Mongoose bike

No, it's not perfect (definitely a couple of head scratchers in there) and it's not going to be for everybody, but I think it's a good show. Worth a watch, at least. Especially if you're into sci-fi monster flicks/shows with an '80s vibe.

Finished Stranger Things. 8/10.
Fantastic series that brought together images of IT, ET, and Poltergeist in a gritty version of the childrens Goosebumps. Hope they can come up with a new season.

Just finished binging it. One of my favorite shows in a looong time. Loved the tone and nostalgic vibe. The pace was solid for 8 episodes, a lot of stuff happening with a large cast and nary a dull moment. The child actors did a fantastic job... and sue me, I get very critical of child actors. Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine?! It must be the 80s again. Synth track seals the deal.
Enthusiastic 9/10.
