Die Ehe der Maria Braun / The Marriage of Maria Braun (1979) - Maria marries Hermann Braun in the last days of World War II, only for him to go missing in the war. Alone, Maria puts to use her beauty and ambition in order to find prosperity during Germany's "economic miracle" of the 1950s.
This, the first of Fassbinder's Bundesrepublik Deutschland Trilogy, was much easier to digest than my introduction to the director earlier this year, the 15-hour epic, Berlin Alexanderplatz. Many of the same actors appeared in both films so it was almost like watching an alternate reality of the previous movie. 8/10

I opted to watch the "Half in the bag" review, rather than the movie as I assumed as much. That's probably more entertaining in cases such as this.
