Seems like most of the headlines have changed their message to one of Endgame failing to match Avatar's worldwide box office record. This Memorial weekend is Endgame's final chance to close the gap. While the movie may remain in theaters for months, after this weekend the daily returns will be under one million and dropping off fast.

What idiot could possibly have set the bar at 2.8 billion?

Everyone at Disney and Marvel are thrilled with Endgame or they are insane.

Almost there. Another $162 mil worldwide and Endgame will beat Avatar. Another $136 mil domestic and will beat Star Wars: TFA
As of May 22

Domestic: $779,425,998 29.7%+ Foreign: $1,845,482,612 70.3%= Worldwide: $2,624,908,610

Only 8.1 million increase. $154 mil to beat Avatar. Definitely will not do it this weekend.

Important to note that the foreign number hasn't been updated since Sunday 19 May. The current amount is likely tens of millions higher.

They may not add it on until after the Monday holiday, sometimes they calculate the long weekend all together.

exactly

Saying it failed to meet expectations is jumping the shark and just not true

I still say it gets there

Avengers Endgame adds an estimated $16.8M domestic and $15.3M international over the three day weekend ending Sunday, 26 May. By the end of the Memorial Day weekend in the US, it will become only the second movie ever to pass $800M domestic.

Unfortunately, it is the $15.3M international number that illustrates just how much the film has slowed in the remaining 54 international markets. Aladdin has exceeded predictions and with the release of Godzilla King of Monsters next weekend, Avengers Endgame is almost done overseas.

If Endgame had any chance of catching Avatar, I estimated it needed to reach $2.70B this weekend, but it has significantly fallen short.

Domestic: $798M estimated
International: $1.87B estimated

Total Worldwide: $2.67B estimated

Except the numbers on BOM still state int. Hasn't been updated since 5/19. I'd like to see the full update tomorrow but I don't know if it will happen because of the holiday.

I'm not sure how box office mojo reports international numbers. They may be calculated estimates at this point. The total foreign gross is as of 26 May (top right of list), but the individual countries still show 19 May. This doesn't seem to make much sense to me. LOL

We should have a much clearer picture of the actual numbers by Tuesday.

The Memorial weekend (including Monday) actual box office numbers are in and they're very close to the estimates.

Just over 101 million to go for the Avatar worldwide record. Now, 100 million may not seem like much to a film that has made almost $2.7B in just over a month, but I just don't know if it has the legs, particularly in the international markets.

Domestic: $803M
International: $1.88B

Total Worldwide: $2.68B
