Mat Reeves is defintley my choice for doing a stanalone batman film. He can bring that serious tone and his Noir idea with supernatural elements even and I bet he can deliver. Batman doesn't need to follow any formula other than its own.
I've disliked or even flat out hated every live-action version of Batman so far. Reeves making a "noir" sounds like more of the same. Wonder Woman was the best DC movie in a long time.

Batman 1989 has its moments, but there's too much Vicki Vale screaming. I now watch that movie with the audio muted.

It's been mystifying how Warner has managed to mess up live-action Batman movies given how awesome the animated versions have been.

Batman: TAS
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
Batman: Sub-Zero
Batman: Under the Red Hood
Batman: Bad Blood

I remember sneaking out of Christmas dinner to see this one in the theatre. I also proposed to my wife the exact same way as Bruce did in the movie. That said, it is the most overrated Batman film ever.

Now I'm not saying the movie will be bad or that the script won't be as good, I can't know that, but this film was predicated on moving forward with a script that was already in place. They need someone to call the shots if they want to keep a cohesive film universe.
Geoff Johns and Jon Berg have that role with WB. That said WB is a filmmaker friendly studio which means there will not be the rigid control seen at Disney. I welcome the risks as I prefer film as art as opposed to consumer products to maximize multi level returns. BvS was a 4.5 to 6/10 movie for me; but I appreciate that it was a unique and visionary film. While I love the MCU, it was becoming a little too cookie cutter until Homecoming; which we may ironically be able to thank Sony for.

I'm talking about Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes incase you're thinking about the original. If you're talking about that too then yes, there's more character development, story, and emotions in those movies than wonder woman had. Not even a comparison.
