Question What portrait do you prefer, stylized or realistic?

Hello everyone. I want to be a figure sculptor, and only want to specialize in females statues. I've been reading your comments for a long time, so I'd like to know your opinion about these two kinds of portraits.

Stylized portraids have bigger eyes, smaller and more delicate jaw, have more personality and essence, and it's more similar to the comic. Also they are easier to paint so the results always are good. The problem is that sometimes they look very simple next to the other statues

Realistic portraits have more details and more complexity, look more like a sculpture than a toy. But it's dificult to the sculptor to represent the character correctly, that's why most of the time they don't look good (sometimes they look to masculine or like old woman and also, you're always comparing them with actresses.

What kind of portrait do you prefer and why? I'll apreciate your opinion

I tend to gravitate toward the Stylized portraits more than the Realistic ones myself. Although for some characters I will purchase them either way or even both. Most of my collection is Stylized.

Either/Or...it really comes down to the body sculpt/pose/subject matter. Either one can be a home run.

Given the choice of those above, I'd overwhelmingly take the ones on the right. I actually own that Emma, Rogue, Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, and Power Girl (gasp!) and love them all.

In terms of comparing them to real people, well, people can look alike. I have a cousin who is a dead ringer for Cara Delevingne so in makes sense when you sculpt an attractive woman people see similarities to other attractive women.

I prefer stylized because as you said, a lot of times it can look like an actress or pop culture person. I don't like that. I want my comic character to look like art - not a person. To be honest, I think both the Storm portraits are stylized which is fine by me

I skew more towards realistic personally. Some of the stylized ones have a certain charm, but it depends on the particular character and particular sculpt.

I like both when done well. I don't really have a preference but portraits are more likely to come down to how well they are painted for me. Especially the eyes.
