The Thing (2011) - 7/10

Decent prequel/remake. I do wish they would have gone all out on the prequel idea and came up with more of their own ideas though. It borrows heavily from the 1982 film to the point where it very much feels like a modern update and because of that will suffer as comparisons to it's far superior predecessor become unavoidable. That said it does connect to Carpenter's film in enough ways (rather intelligently I might add) that it is more prequel than remake. Its good but I think had it been more original it could have been great.

Still haven't seen this, but... no rush; the original's still one of my favorite sci-fi films. It'd be fun to see the tie-ins that nudge this into prequel territory, though.

Checked this out on Scott's recommendation, and have to say I was pleasantly entertained. Pleasantly "surprised" isn't the right term, because I trust his judgment

Thought it had some fresh ideas for the zombie genre, which is no mean feat to itself, and although the acting was really sketchy at times, I thought the moments of high tension completely made up for that. Really good stuff!

You haven't had the full "The Dead" experience until you've listened to the commentary; I'm sure Scott would agree.

Glad you liked it, Rod. Definitely a refreshing take on the genre.

Thor 9/10 Watched again for the umpteenth time. I still find it one of the best comic related movies.

Piranha (2010) 4/10

Would have rated it lower but it had Elisabeth Shue and I just love Elisabeth Shue

Please don't tell me I was responsible for you watching this... Elisabeth Shue was quite the MILF in here, wasn't she?
