Great show IMO. I went twice and had a blast both times. There are plenty of opportunities for great art. It is busy but if you are active early in the show you can plan some good commissions. I was extremely happy with my hauls both years.

NYCC attracts the best artists overseas and entertainment outside of SDCC. There is nothing like SDCC but its not really comic book focused anymore. If you cant enjoy NYCC then you probably dont like cons.

Artwise, there is competition for the best artists. VIP pass will increase your chances to hit every artist. I recommend preorder where you can.

While it will increase your chances slightly, it doesn't really get you first access to the artists. When I went in 2010, I had a VIP pass and three artists that I really wanted pieces from, and the only one I got was Ivan Reis. Even though there was only one or two people ahead of me in his line, I was the second to last on his list. The people with exhibitors passes got to the big name artists first and filled their lists. So I guess without the VIP, I wouldn't have even gotten on Ivan's list, but I expected a better opportunity for the extra money spent on the VIP.

Sometimes you're first in line on Day 1 VIP/Professional Pass and all, and the list, plain in sight in front of the artist, is already full; it happens.

I'd certainly say NYCC's worth it, of course I don't go to any outside of NYC so it's kinda the only place I go anyway. Even if you can't get all the big names there's just so many great artists huddled around whether in the regular comic arist alley or the manga artist alley.

@Statman: Yeah. I've heard plenty of artists see that and get pissed because it fills up their lines. Even when I went one year and helped a comic store I was friends with (well, friends with the staff, the store isn't alive) I made sure to let folks who had regular passes or VIP tickets to go ahead of me when I was going on line for Adam Hughes to make it fair. I'd feel like an ass otherwise.

What really made the trip memorable though was getting to meet and hang out with a bunch of folks from Statue Forum.
Agree on all points, flew all the way from across the world and it more than worth it.
