It looks great, and the touch activated light-up is a really nice... touch, but I know the fact his hands aren't actually touching his waist like on the prototype would annoy me a lot. Is there some give to them?

There's not really any give to anything. The assembly is pretty tight. But it's still close enough to what you see in the website photos which I'm fine with. Any closer and you're risking paint rubs or even hands that prevent the body from making proper contact to the waist.
