Basic skull casts?

Hi all

I'm looking to create a number of 1/6 pieces, so far I have a basic skull in baked sculpey.

Could I take a mould and cast a number of these in polyurethane resin, and then apply sculpey to them?

Would the sculpey stick to the cured resin?

Would the cued resin cope with being rebaked?

Cheers

Ryan

Yes, that works. I've done it many times, with skulls even.

Really? I would have thought the resin would melt in the oven.. I would also worry about toxic fumes from the Rezin heating up.

Ryan, you could always push some aves apoxie sculpt into the molds.
I know you can bake aves with no worries.

resin in oven

That's a good point rgm205. I hadn't thought about toxins. I use a separate oven for baking clay though, because even super sculpey will release some toxins if it gets too hot.

Resin will soften a little when it heats up, so if you tried to put a whole figure in the oven, the weak points would bend. Like ankles and what not. You wouldn't have to worry about that with a skull though. Also, the epoxy putties are basically resin with a filler to make them easy to handle, so cured resin behaves exactly the same as epoxy under heat.
