I have no problem with the choice. But how can she be classified as a great director? Her body of work does not back up that claim. She may turn out to be a great director but one good movie does not qualify her.

It doesn't need to be literally said because the intent is so obvious. AD may be a good director but there are MANY good directors out there that would fit as well. I just find the whole action of these companies going out of their way to be politically correct almost insulting. Does that mean they'll be looking for an Asian director for the Shang-Chi movie and a Muslim one for Ms. Marvel?

I suppose the point is moot now since I've read elsewhere that Marvel is indeed looking specifically for an African-American director for Black Panther.

But if you and others here agree that Selma is a good if not great film then why not prioritize Ava Duvernay over white good directors who direct 99% of Hollywood films? Why shut black directors out of this project if one proves that they are capable?

Knew Netflix was tackling Iron Fist, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, & DD, but when was a Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu series announced. If so, this is great news!

It hasn't been. I'm just hopeful that if they do bring in Shang-Chi to live action tv or cinema it will be Tony Jaa doing the role.

I'm going to un-call it then.

Tony Jaa's fight scenes are incredible, but he doesn't have the acting chops to lead a TV series. I don't mind if he played Shang-Chi in a support role on something like Iron Fist, but not the main actor.
