Working on my first paint up....

I was fortunate enough to get one of the Mask of the Phantasm sculpts and this is my first foray into building the kit and painting. Any special advice on sanding? Special tools? certain grit in the sandpaper? Fortunately this one only has a couple of colors and should be somewhat easier to paint as a starter.

dude do you not still have the "file" of info.. all of that is in there.

ok since you may have lost it. start with 10 grit paper..............

ok that is wrong as well. start out with around 100 grit and then go up to about 500 to 600 to get it smooth and line free. you can also use a dremel for sanding but be careful.

you will need paint brushes, it does not look good finger painted, as well as some paint. since this is your first one i would go to micheals and get some delta creamcoat paints or apple barrel. both are not expensive and good to work with.

I've got a good 4 inch ox hair brush. Will that work?

Brutal....

Nbr3 - If the kit has seams, medium and fine grit sandpaper along w/ the back of an exacto knife will work. Superglue (Zap-a-Gap green label) if needed. Get yourself some Duplicolor Gray Auto Primer too (yellow writing on the label) as you will need to prime the resin before painting. If you're going to handbrush the piece, make sure you apply several light coats to get full coverage rather than 1 heavy coat. It may take a little longer to paint, but your results will be much better.

If you have any questions, you can PM or drop me a line at rickdtm@cablespeed.com

Happy painting!!

Rick

Hobbits are not allowed to have sharp objects. he cannot buy an exacto knife. sharp sticks maybe but since our hobbit is a very young hobbit........... he is still considered a kid and therefor we have to be very careful of what we allow him to have.
