thanks, guys!
All done now
small write-up from my fb page
One of my all-time favorite statues. Definitely not an easy one to fully repaint. Due to the cape being glued onto the body I had to start off by breaking the cape so that I could paint his back.
I then fixed everything and made it so that the cape is now removable.
There's actually a lot going on on this piece. Especially the base. Tons of tiny details.
I always like my superheroes clean, not too damaged, like in most books. X-Men may be battling Sentinels and whatnot, their outfits always seem to be in pristine condition.
But in this case I thought a little weathering on the metallic parts of Magneto's costume would look cool.
He was painted in his classic, vibrant colors, whereas the base was done in a more realistic way using Mig Jimenez' brilliant paints for weathering metal.
The eyes are painted in regular paints, not UV, as I wanted the effect to be permanent.
This is the statue that got me into painting. I remember seeing it at my LCS, fell in love with it but I couldn't help but think the colors were all wrong. I couldn't paint at the time but this is pretty much what I had in mind émoticône wink
Feels great to finally see this come to life after 4 years!
Jim Lee and Erick Sosa are a match made in heaven. Here's my small contribution
