Show me where it says anywhere in their terms and conditions that:
1) That Sideshow will not re-visit or re-release any of their products;
2) That Sideshow is in the business of making you money, or ensuring the value of your collectibles;
3) That buying any of their products is essential to your survival, will make your penis bigger, will get you fame and fortune, or will bring about world peace.
If they claim none of these things, they didn't mislead you, not in any legal or moral sense. If you feel misled or betrayed, it's because you made an assumption or had some kind of expectation that, when you really break it down, is based on your own self-interest. Well guess what? Sideshow is interested in making money. And since no one has a gun to your head forcing you to buy their products, you can simply opt out. If everyone else opts out, then they lose. If others don't opt out, then their product sells and their interests win out over yours.
And by the way, this is NOT a defense of Sideshow. They don't need defending. This is something that will benefit some, and possibly burn others who just paid $600 for this piece last week. But at the end of the day, your purchase decisions and expectations NOT based on any explicit promise on Sideshow's part are YOUR responsibility. You bought the previous release, presumably because you wanted it, so put on your big-boy pants and accept responsibility for your choices. And if you're so put-off by Sideshow, sell your pieces, cancel your orders, and move on, but just make sure not to sell your pieces at a profit because that would be evil.
RANT OVER. No one take this personally, it's just one man's perspective.

Your completely right COI but it can be viewed as unethical in a hobby were the number of the product being made is part of it. The high editions and variants messes with the hobbies lifeblood.

I think they're regretting the original ES and this is their way to catchup.
They sure know how to rile up this board.

I encourage anyone who feels this way to speak with their wallet. As I said, I'm not defending Sideshow, just merely pointing out that it might be best to see things as they are and make decisions on that basis, than to lament that things are not how you want them to be, and continue buying in the hopes that one day they'll "get it right".
The market decides. If this conception of "collectibility" and false scarcity really are the lifeblood of this hobby, then these practices won't succeed. If they do succeed, then maybe people are buying for other reasons.

I'm really confused by all the hate towards this variant. How is this any different than what other companies do?
If this was just a straight up repaint I could understand the disdain somewhat but in addition to being a different color it has a slight change to the costume and a sculpt change to the base. To me thats a worthy and true variation.
Nobody is twisting your arm to buy this. It's not something I'm interested in personally but hardcore fans of the character might be and/or people who may have missed out on the original. Limit this thing to 200 pieces and watch the same people complaining throw a tantrum because this sold out too fast. Sideshow just can't win with a lot of you guys.
