The arrangement of tentacles was "fiercer" in the artwork and the octopus' position was more vertical. The sculpt has the front tentacles layed out more neatly, and the octopus is positioned longer horizontally/across. The intensity of the drawing went down this way. The more realistic, darker octopus eye with lighter skin appearance (reversed) probably heightens this.
The positioning of Namor's torso in the sculpt also decreases the dramatics of the artwork. The artwork his right side is pulled back more, right shoulder slightly behind the right leg...he's pre-throw. The sculpt his shoulder isn't as far back, it's slightly more forward like he's started the throw already.
His right hand position has also been reversed. Overall, the octopus being stretched out and tentacles neatened, Namor's less dramatic stretch across his body, and the hand position decrease the aggressiveness of the artwork. Also, the missing swordfish. Some thought they overkill but they did at to the aggressiveness of the piece.
Still an amazing sculpt. If presented this at first there'd be no complaints. Just more "relaxed" than the original artwork. It went from "Giant Octopus statue with a Namor on top" to "Namor with a rather big octopus".
