Bad Times at the El Royal

8 of 10.

Different but slow at times, enjoyable enough.

John Wick 3: Parabellum. I enjoyed it more than the second one. 9/10.

First Man 5/10

Not sure what I expected, but I'd been looking forwards to this one for a long time and ended it very underwhelmed. The actual moon landing/walk was cool, but the rest of it was just blah. I like Ryan Gosling, Bladerunner 2049 is one of the best movies I've seen in years. But his dry, uninterested look was just too much in this, even if Armstrong did have a reserved personality. Most of the cast were fine however. It also just whizzes passed various events that could have been much better built on (and more entertaining) at the expense of filler scenes over the dinner table.

Spider-Man Far from Home - 7/10

Fun entry into the MCU. I definitely enjoyed it more than Homecoming but going forward I would like to see a proper Spider-Man film that’s not so interconnected with The Avengers. More Spider-Man in his traditional suit, less comedy and less Peter Parker in the high school settings. It’ll likely never happen but I’m still hoping for a film adaptation of Kraven’s Last Hunt. I think it would bring a sense of maturity and much needed seriousness to this rendition of the character.

Spider-man: Far From Home

I really liked it, but I think that was mainly because of how well they translated Mysterio to the big screen

8/10

X-Men Apocalypse

7.4/10

There are Marvel movies i'm in a rush to watch. There are Marvel movies that i'll see, at some point. X-Men movies tend to receive less than favorable reviews. With zero expectation, i decided to sit through X-Men Apocalypse. While i wasn't blown away, i thought it was a decent enough effort.

The special fx looked great. Performances by all are decent enough. I'd have liked to have seen more of Storm.

John Wick - 9/10

John Wick: Chapter 2 - 9.5/10

Recently watched the first two Chapters in preparation for the third. To my surprise I actually enjoyed Chapter 2 slightly more than the original in my second viewing, which wasn’t the case the first time I saw it theatrically.

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum - 8.5/10

While I loved Parabellum it was definitely my least favorite in the trilogy. I felt some of the mythology pushed the boundaries just a bit too much (yes I know the whole thing is a stretch anyways) and with the loss of his wife, dog and car out of the way it lacked the emotional weight established in the first two. I also felt the cool rhythm the series had established wasn’t as consistent here. All that being said it had the best martial arts of the three but I wasn’t sold on Mark Dacoscos’ hammy character/performance. Ending was also a bit meh as it felt just a bit too focused on setting up a sequel.
