Z Nation on SyFy

Wasn't expecting much. Kinda thought it would be a b-Canadian production w/ bad effects & an irritating cast, but I was wrong. All in all the 1st ep. was very good. Some "borrowing" from other zombie concepts, but at this point, who doesn't?
The star of That Thing You Do and an actor from Lost kick off the 1st ep. I like this one because it's just not as depressing, so far, as WD over on AMC. There are some lighter moments which I appreciate.
It should turn into a cool road piece. I think I'm in. The 1st ep. is already on-demand.

Only caught the last half. I was surprised to what happened to the guy from Lost. Wasn't too bad for a tv zombie show.

I had read this was pretty weak and was going to skip over it but I'll check it out after the recommendations of a few here whose opinions I respect. Fingers crossed as I haven't found a SyFy Channel series I've liked since Stargate: Universe which was unceremoniously axed by the network years ago.

Well the pilot was tolerable...nothing really "must see" though. I'll probably stick around for another episode or two, but I doubt this'll make the cut once all the other fall shows start up in a week or two. Only so much tv time to go around.

Yeah I watched this last night and "tolerable" is a good way to describe it, maybe even a bit generous as far as I'm concerned.

The acting was pretty bad across the board, even from veterans who I normally enjoy like Tom Everett Scott and Harold Perrineau.

Character behavior was absolutely nonsensical at times, which always takes you out of the experience.

Worst of all was the cringe worthy dialogue which was downright horrible throughout.

Overall nothing is being done with this series that hasn't been done better in both the film and television mediums before. I'll give it a few episodes but I'm not overly optimistic after watching what is coming ahead. Looks like the dialogue issues are only going to get worse as I noticed a lot of cheesy one liners and forced humor on the horizon.

W/o getting into any plot spoilers, it was "the little things" I enjoyed in the kick-off ep. I liked a shooter falling back into tree-cover while another greets new arrivals; I liked the opening shot of a destroyed DC; I liked time jump & it's plot-device in upping the chaos factor survivors face; I liked the barter-system sequence. There'd be so much to do & so many ways to act if such an event were to actually happen, that I enjoyed the writer's attempt to, at least, subtly tackle a few new rules & how survivors would act. +, we have a target & a possible solution. That works for me. Sure, there were as many problems as there were cool touches, but hopefully, the bugs will be worked out.
