I have a few which I enjoy on occasion. My faves of what I own are as follows -

The Omega Man soundtrack by Ron Grainer which is not only excellent music, but can cause the listener to relive the movie.

Braveheart Soundtrack by James Horner

Love the MGM film recording of the musical Brigadoon sung by the actors in the film.

Logan's Run soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith.

The Speed Racer movie soundtrack by Michael Giacchino. Just amazing.

I also love my Some Came Running soundtrack which slides right in to an evening of Rat Pack listening, even though it has no sung music.

Our Man Flint soundtrack is a 2-disk extravaganza which I love on a Sunday morning or with cocktails on a weekend night. Also composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

That one nearly made my list, it's great.

Batman: Bad Blood by Frederik Wiedmann. This is also my favorite Batman movie.

The first post is odd to me because i don’t feel any of those movies have a memorable score...something you walk out whistling you know it so well. Examples of old classic ones

Superman
Batman 89
Raiders
Star Wars
Lord of the Rings
Conan
ET
Terminator
JP
Back Future
Etc

Scores just lack the big main themes these days...Jurassic World is a recent one that had its own theme. Captain America 1 too and phase 1 Marvel movies now that i think about it.

I think that you and I get different things from movies scores, and that's completely fine.

To me, the soundtracks/scores you mentioned are fantastic, but they're so ingrained into my memory as pop-culture they don't carry the same resonance anymore.

Let me explain my reasoning. When I listen to a soundtrack, I am looking for something that will enhance, or stir something inside of me, especially when I'm working. If I put on John Williams' Indiana Jones theme, I can't work. All I can think about is Indiana Jones. The piece is so evocative, underpinned with the character of Indy that I can't sit there and listen to the music on it's own merit anymore.

That's my 'problem' (not a problem at all really because I love those scores), with those pieces, they're great, but in the same way as that dog-earred book I've read 100 times, it doesn't move me in the same way it used to.

I get a similar feeling when I think about the Beatles or the Stones, they're so ingrained in my psyche as being 'great' that I would never now count them amongst my favourites. They're just there.

I'm not sure I've made my point eloquently enough, but anyway, I think the whole point of the music is to evoke something in us, and if you get the same feeling from listening to William's Superman theme that I get from listening to Inception's Time, then your choice is equally as valid. I don't think there are any wrong answers here.

Score:
Interstellar
Blade Runner 2049
most any Hans Zimmer
RoboCop
Predator
Halloween
The Remains of the Day
Sideways
Sherlock Holmes

Soundtrack:
Boogie Nights
Dead Presidents
Pirate Radio

I can't think of any other soundtracks that even come close to these three for me.

Do agree with Transformers: Animated movie though. A rare soundtrack cd that I bought - a long time ago. Watched the movie several times with my neice and nephew now, and she even commented about what a good soundtrack it has! lol... They dance to several songs in the movie.

Score/soundtrack:
Oblivion
28 Days Later

EDIT: Sorry...a few edits... :P

John Carpenters films have amazing soundtracks, I believe Carpenter composes them himself as well as directing, the riff in They Live is one of my favorites.

True, from what I remember reading. The Thing is another one I could've added.
