Does XBOX 360 HD Drive do upconversion?

don`t forget that your tv is already upcoverting a SD signal, so for an upcoverting dvd player to be wortwhile it has to be better than the one inside your tv.

No word, but don't get the 360 HD-DVD drive if you plan to purchase many movies at all. Get an A2 or the recently announced A20. MUCH better quality with a standalone player.

Do you mean build quality? as the picture on both is the same, I have the 360 HD-DVD drive and the quality is outstanding. I`ve also seen the toshiba in action and there no difference I can see. Also check the reviews on the 360 drive, I`ve not seen one negative one yet or one for that matter which says the tosh is superior

No word yet. They have been releasing a larger harddrive spaced black 360 in Australian and that might be the new one coming over here but no word at all.

That may be true, but you're missing the follwing on the 360 drive

1. DVD upconversion
2. HDMI out
3. Advanced Sound (Dolby True HD, etc.)
4. 1080p output (on the A20 and XA2)
5. Seamless integration with my other components and the fact that I don't have to worry about taking a game out of my 360 before I can watch a movie.

Plus, you get plenty of free HD-DVD's from Toshiba. I got 3 from them (you get 5 now) and 2 from Value Electronics with my A2. I LOVE it!

Now, we just need Disney, Lionsgate, or Fox to go neutral in the format war.

aha! but

1) if you have a half decent tv/projector the scaler in that should be as good as if not better than any dvd player
2)HDMI offers very little benefits at the moment, picture improvement over component is little or none
3)I`ll give you this point!
4)xbox does 1080p output (without getting into the argument that there`s little difference detail wise between a 720p and a 1080p image even on a projector)
5)you don`t have to remove a game from the 360 to play a HD film as the HD-DVD player is separate

I agree with you about hoping those film companies go neutral though
