It's good to only buy pieces that were inspected. That way the seller assumes responsibility that the statues is in good condition when he shipped it. I just recently bought a sealed piece from a seller on a piece he got from sideshow and when I opened it of course it was broke. But I could tell it was broke due to sideshows intial packaging because I have had the same issue where they don't make sure the styrofoam is firmly together had the buyer initially checked he would have resealed better or got a refund from sideshow or replacement
Plus several people have bought items sat them
In storage only to open them months or year or more later to find some broken.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

I agree, while you can never be sure the statue doesn't have a defect or damage from shipping, you can be sure that the damages associated with the wear and tear of display won't be on the statue.

I don't think it's very common though to buy a statue, never open it or display it, and then years later want to sell it.

I never buy a "factory sealed" piece where the seller says "as is no returns". In that case I ask them to open, inspect and send detailed pics to confirm condition before shipping. If they refuse I pass.

I'd strongly advise new collectors to not take this advice.

That's the most important part. That and listing any and all possible issues...most collectors don't like surprises. Keeping fellow collectors happy while protecting yourself.

As far as the topic...inspected is usually better. You run the risk of the seller not repackaging it properly as jadekite22 pointed out, but you'll know there isn't a surprise waiting for you as long as it's packaged and shipped properly. If you buy factory sealed and it's damaged...you might be up a creek.

Whoop dee doo. I advise new collectors to not do what this collector does. You'll be setting yourself up for more headaches. Sure statues get damaged during transit but at least you are filtering out defects that have already occurred.

Yup I would never sell a statue that I've never inspected.

It's stupid not inspect a statue when you receive or sell
You can't get your money returned if you don't inspect or
get a replacement

If you ship statue not inspected and it has an issue you very likely get a return and you are out shipping and these days that's
not cheap.
