I question whether he's dead.
1. There was no blood.
2. Shotgun blasts do a lot more damage than that, up close.
3. The preview for next week has an officer stating something to Bezzerides like, "I'm involved whenever one of my guys is shot." Curious that he didn't say killed/murdered.
EDIT:
Just thought of possible #4. The place had a fetishistic, S&M vibe. Shooting someone with rock salt would sting like a b!tch...

Crazy final scene in last night's episode. All those bulletproof vests didn't help much at all.
