As always, thanks for starting this thread!
Since I bought this hardcover today, I figured I'd better post it. A topic like this has to have a little Mike Mignola!

It's really starting to look like Horror comics were the bricks on which Atlas built its comic factory, in turn which became Marvel so ... Marvel owes a lot of its survival to Scary Comics. I'm not quite ready to move on to more modern horror so here's another blast from the past w/ Atlas' Astonishing. Publ. from 1951 to 1957, w/ 63 issues Astonishing really had some gorgeous covers. -
*you don't see this Blue anymore in comics.

Moppin' up with the visits to the 40's & 50's with Atlas' Menace. 11 issues from 1953-54. As you all have seen, horror & crime comics must have really dominated in the 50's. Looking for titles, I was amazed by just how many I've found & how many more are left for next year.
one of my very favorite horror covers of all time.

Is there a book that contains all these covers?

No. I wish. But there are books which collect a lot of the 50's stuff. In my collection I have the hdbk, slipcase collections of EC's Vault of Horror, Tales From The Crypt, Shock Suspense Stories, Crime Suspense Stories & The Haunt of Fear. IDW has been putting out very reasonably priced, hdbk, themed collections, covering a ton of what I've put up here. So far I have the IDW Deadly Horror, Voodoo v.1, Nightmares, Ghosts & Girls, Devil Tales, Zombies, The Return of Zombies, Haunted Love & Monster Invasion. I also have the Titan, Simon & Kirby Horror Collection & the DC Showcase volumes of Ghosts, The Witching Hour & House of Mystery.
The EC slipcases will now set you back $150-$200. But the IDW volumes are all still relatively new & run from around $18 - $25; well worth it. They're beautiful.
Marvel did put out Horror books in the 60's & 70's but there real claim to horror fame is there FANTASTIC stable of monsters published during the 70's in both color comics & b&w Curtis mags. Zombie Tales, Where Monsters Dwell, Vampire Tales, Monsters Unleashed, Tomb of Dracula, Werewolf By Night, Frankenstein's Monster, Living Mummy, etc ... Most of which are available in b&w as Essentials.
