Just got my FedEx invoice for two Sideshow statues I got recently.

Code used was 9503.00.90.99 for both, which has no 6.5% duty.

Is anyone following/up-to-date on the NAFTA negations with regards to the USA wanting Canada to increase the limit on duty free imports? Last time I heard they wanted it increased from the current $20 to over $800 for duty free imports from the States.

Would SS statue apply to this? I thought because these were manufactured in China, there will always be duty?

That would be amazing.... though I cannot see it happening any time soon. Canada relies heavily on those taxes. Medicare costs are going through the roof. It's a necessary evil, I'm afraid, if you want to maintain those incredible benefits of living in Canada.

Yeah it would definitely apply to SS if it happened. If it did happen I would be importing SO much from the states, even with added shipping costs the savings would be significant if you didn't have to pay customs.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Macleans did an article on this and the exact opposite is true. Canada should have raised the number years ago. We are spending more money to collect on lower amounts. By raising the limit, they stand to pocket more of the money. Have a read.

This essentially comes down to many Canadian businesses putting up resistance due to fear of online shopping. Problem is, many of the products aren’t even available in a Canadian option.

This is definitely true for us who buy statues or other items which are simply not made in Canada, but I can see why retailers would be apprehensive about it when you can buy stuff from the USA Amazon for cheaper than your local Best Buy.
