Agent John Doggett Review

Introduction

Agent John Doggett took the place of Agent Fox Mulder after his supposed death. Partnering with Agent Dana Scully, Agent Doggett is a sharp agent with military and police background. The roles changed for Agent Scully as she is now the believer and Doggett is the skeptic.

Sideshow has issued two versions of John Doggett, their exclusive version was presented in suit , pistol, and trenchcoat, whereas the standard retail release came in S.W.A.T. gear, along with some great accessories.

Packaging

Sideshow has done the X-Files line justice with their packaging. The X-Files logo is presented in lithograph style with a film portrait of the character, in this case the portrait is of actor Robert Patrick. The figure layout inside is very well done, for those collectors who do not open theirs. Standard Sideshow tie downs are used, however the menacing under the clothes tie is not present on Agent Dogget, which with his S.W.A.T. is a blessing.

Sculpting

Collectors know Andy Bergholtz is blessed with an incredible gift of sculpting and it shows once more in capturing a great likeness of Robert Patrick. The hair is sculpted and comes off very well as Robert Patrick sports a hair-do very similar to that of Martin and Charlie Sheen. The hands are sculpted in good positions to hold the varuious accessories. This figure marks the return of injected heads, instead of rotocast which Sideshow had started using on other 12 inch figure releases.

Paint

Paint on the face and hair is done very well. Solid coverage no shading as to allow the head sculpting to cast its own shadows.

Accessories/Clothing

With any 12 inch figure this is my area of focus when I examine it. Agent Doggett comes with a good amount of accessories for a 12 incher: Canteen, Pistol, Machine Gun, Flashlight, and earpiece/radio set. As for clothing pieces he has shoes. socks, trousers, belt, black turlteneck, and nylon S.W.A.T. vest. All the accessories are presented very well all in covert black coloring. The pants, shoes, belt, and socks are superb. As for the vest here inlies the few issues this figure has. We have all these terrific accessories and no where to put them. Yes the vest has pockets on the shoulders, but piling a canteen, pistol, and flashlight in them would not be practical. The radio has a pockets, and the headpiece can reside on the figures head. The machine gun has a strap, but I like seeing it in his hands more then over his shoulder. So when not posed with them, the guns, flashlight, and canteen will have to placed somewhere else. However it must be said that Sideshow did an extremely wonderful job on pulling off a nylon vest for a 12 inch figure. Nylon does not bend well on a small figure, but well placed folds and velcro, it is pulled off very nicely.

Overall

For X-Files fans and 1/6 scale collectors this figure will be great to own for the accessories alone, throw in a top notch head sculpt, and some good clothing choices, and Agent Doggett will be a proud addition to your shelf, just make sure you have somewhere to put the loose accessories. The overall presentation of the figure is very series accurate. To be honest I had a great time posing this figure with the various accessories and using the stand that accompanied it really is unnecssary as he stands on his own very well.

I thought the S.W.A.T. gear was stupid for a regular release. He only wore that in one ep that I recall.
I bought the exclusive on this one.
Krycek coming up doesn't look as good as the previous AF.
Wish SS would do XF busts.
