I've always assumed maquettes required more complex engineering.

I get the scaling. I have never had a doubt regarding PFs or maquettes being anything other than 1/4 scale per SS's definition.

But pricing.....

If I'm not mistaken have there not been PFs that cost either as much as maquettes to date.? Or slightly more.?

I thought that also.

Then the Nightcrawler PF came out.

And then I felt that theory flew the coop.

again, however, just my opinion.

What was the 1st Sideshow Collectibles Maquette ?

Knowing that might offer an anwser to the question, as it would represent a moment in time,
when Sideshow felt the need to label a 1/4 PF as something other than a 1/4 PF

Regarding the term Maquette...

I've thought of that as just another tier in the Sideshow pricing model. Basically 1 step above the Premium Format label.

Highest Prices - Maquette
Higher Prices - Premium Format
Just High Prices - Everything else.

Even Sideshow employees don't have any real idea nor does history provide any grand definition.

So what comes to mind is the Magneto PF.

Wasn't it first released as a PF and was listed at a specific price and then when there was feedback that was shared and posted and there had been some disappointment expressed by fans.....it then went back into production, there were some tweeeks made.....some added pieces to the base and then all of a sudden it reached 'maquette' status....?

and then the price was raised,..?

I was under the impression that maquettes were generally out of perfect scale with the PFs. Massively in the case of the Galactus maquette, or even in the case of Juggs he might be *close* to fourth scale but due to packaging, cost or structural issues they might be slightly smaller than a true 1/4 scale would be. Even though they can sometimes be paired with PFs and still work. Or maybe it's a technical licensing issue? Who knows!

Maquette does not designate scale, i think Igo said back in the day it basically means some aspect of it makes it more ultimate. Size, sculpt, detail, engineering, paint etc - sometimes it makes sense other times I’m not sure why they don’t just call it a pf. Either way scale has nothing to do with it
