The Young Pope 9/10 (HBO) episodes 1-3

Blown away! The 1st 3 episodes of this new series on HBO has really surprised me. Some of the best writing I've seen on tv, an Italian cinematic sensibility that I've never seen on tv & is just so rich & beautifully shot I find myself smiling on just what I'm seeing. Jude Law is beyond amazing as are most of his accompanying cast, beautiful music all add up to make this show truly something. Finally, & it's really not important if you are or aren't, as a Catholic I find this show semi-challenging to watch. It deals with the politics of The Vatican, yet also explores holiness & salvation.

I watched the first three episodes too, but I will refrain from rating the series until it's over. I do very much like director Paolo Sorrentino's last two movies, The Great Beauty (my favorite film of 2014) and Youth so the way it's filmed definitely appeals to me.

Good post. I based my rating purely on the 1st 3 eps. We'll see.

I just watched episode 1 and I like it! My wife however couldn't care less. Maybe too much vatican politics for her taste.

My wife's watching it with me although she squirms on the sofa on occasion & isn't as sold on the show as I am. She debates w/ me on whether or not the show tip-toes into sacrilegious territory. So far, I'm finding the opposite but am not so sure. We both agree that the show visually is compelling.

Riverdale 5/10. Weird show. Like an R rated version of the Archie Comics.

Son of Zorn, S1 - 8/10

This animation/live action blend kept us laughing on Sunday night, so hopefully, there'll be more. A barbarian warrior comes to L.A. in order to play a greater role in his estranged son's life. Fans of He-Man, Thundercats, and other '80s fantasy cartoons will love it.

Just finished watching 51 Episodes of The Avengers (all the episodes with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel). 8/10. One of my favorite TV shows.
