What's a good material to test your paint?

I want to repair a scratch on a polystone statue. What would be good to spray and test the paint on before I apply it to the statue?

I was thinking some kind of putty, maybe the kind used to repair deeper cracks?

Any specific product would be appreciated.

You can test your paint on anything. I've used cardboard, wood, a piece of sheet metal and even a rock. If you are painting something like Iron Man, I'd use a piece of sheet metal as a test area. If you are dry brushing practice on a piece of wood or a stone. Find whatever suits your situation.
