Blue Skin
Okay, so I'm going to be getting my new Shadow Lass sculpt done soon,
and I have absolutely NO CLUE how the heck to go about painting BLUE SKIN.
Could any of the elustrious paint masters here, offer up some advice, so that I can practice before she's done.
I really don't wanna have to take Keith's suggestion of painting her Pearl Green. :tounge:

Just pick out the color blue you want and do the same procedure that you would with flesh color. Darken for the shadows, lighten for the highlights.

Rich, I tried that with my Mystique kit, and I just can't get it to look right.
I saw in the David Fisher DVD's that he starts with basic flesh, and then adds the additional color so that the base of the color is always a true flesh.
I know I'm doing something wrong, but I have no clue what it is, since I've never done this before.

Base coat her in a white/blue. Then can slowly build up her shadow areas in a water downed blue. I like badger paints for this type of process since their paints are so water downed to begin with.
Personally i would make up a base coat of pearlized white light blue color. I would make enough of it to split it in half in containers. and then add some more blue to it to get a mid level color for her. Then use the badger blues for the darker areas. Sorta how i did my magus paint ups for the purple skins.
Just stay away from black, that will kill the single color skin tones. What ever blue you plan to use, make sure that will be your darkest color for the skin tone.

Once you paint the base coat you can do a couple of things. You can darken the base color slightly and airbrush the shadow areas or you can use a blue pastel stick, make a powder with some sand paper and with a brush put the pastels in the shadow areas. If it looks too harsh, take a clean brush and blend it in brushing away from the shadow area. It may look harsh, but once you Dullcote it the blending will be better. Once your happy with the look, then slightly lighten your base color paint with white and hit the high spots to get your final skin tone. There isn't a quick way to achieve a subtle skin tone.

when doing blue flesh i allways mix blue with some flesh colour, just seems to make it look a bit warmer and realistic (or as realistic as blue flesh can be anyway)

So this is something that should be done from light to dark?

Seems that way from the way she is collored in the pictures. Someone like nightcrawler would be dark to light to get that effect.

I should think so... But I would finish off with light for highlights and a mist over with a thinned down medium-light tone to blend everything in
