Besides drawing the iconic Nick Fury, Agent of Shield, The Shadow and Captain America, Jim Steranko drew some pretty cool, almost psychedelic art for Curtis' Vampire Tales & Creepy. -

Besides drawing fantastic representations of Conan & Planet of the Apes in their b&w Curtis' magazines, Alfredo Alcala also drew some terrific horror tales -

In this one, a pursued Vampire, with no where to go, buries himself for millennia. Upon his awakening, the vampire is free to hunt once more .... only, finding that man had finished, only to be reborn with chloroform as their main source of health, no longer blood -

May very well be the best Simon Garth illustrator -

Sonny Trinidad, a Philippine Artist who is best known for his Savage Sword Of Conan work, also did some great work for Marvel's b&w & regular 70's horror comic work. He had that look that you'd expect from Curtis' mags. Sonny also worked on the Marvel/Curtis movie adaptations like The Land That Time Forgot. -

Up there with Frazetta in terms of "Must-Buy" Horror Mag. comic covers, Boris Vallejo made his mark with all of the major b&w 70's monster mags. Just gorgeous covers -

Boris Vallejo is one of my favorite cover painters of all time! I remember when I saw that Dracula Lives! #1 cover on my local news stand shelf and, before I even realized it, it was in my hands and I was making my way to the cashier!!

Agreed, Joe. Boris' work shone through the racks.

On the 70's color, traditional comics side of things, the comics-code was still in full force effect. Publishers were limited in what they could do on the horror side (even though you could easily find rules being broken). Still, there was money to be made & publishes like & especially DC, Marvel Charleton, Dell & Gold Key were churning out horror comics. I'm going to save comic book, supernatural, reoccurring characters for next year &, for now, just concentrate on the artists of the traditional horror books.

Nick Cardy was one of the absolute best horror comic cover artists. The mood was absolutely set when you spotted a book with his art on top. -

Neal Adams - More known for his groundbreaking depictions of Batman, Green Arrow & other DC Heroes, Neal also drew some excellent horror covers & stories. I love when he incorporated children into his spooky covers, inviting DC's intended readers into the horror. I was a kid back then & the detail sure hooked me. -

Neal did do some art for Marvel's monster line -
