I wouldn't have bought the EVAs if they were any smaller either.
It was confirmed by Prime 1 on Facebook that EVA 00 was considered the riskiest of the 3 EVAs to make, and that the project was almost scrapped. Prime 1 wanted to complete the set, but had to set the edition size at 350 total (no exclusives) due to licensor request.
The price increase was due to making only 350, instead of ~1,000.
I'm not crazy about the price point either, but I'm happy that Prime 1 decided to finish the line, and attempted to make them at this size in the first place.
