Email Scams
Just a heads up, look out for email scams...
I just got one this morning where the email started out with my email name and a password I've used in the past, it goes on to say that I visited a porn site he owns and it download spyware on my computer, he was able to hack my Web Cam and recorded me having sex. If I didn't send $$$$ in bit coin to this link he would release the video to all my friends and family...
seeing an old password did peek my interest but there was two problems with this email, for one I'm not a member of any porn site and two I don't own a webcam of any kind not even a laptop.
So I'm guessing a website that I had an account on got hacked and they stole my information (email and password form that site) and they sent out this boiler plate blackmail letter... The funny thing was my sister got the exact same email the only difference was it was showing an old password of hers and they wanted a different amount of money.
Anyways these "Hackers" are just throwing mud at the wall and seeing what sticks... So if you get an email like this, it's just a bunch of B.S. to see if they can con you into sending them money.
The other Email scams I get a lot of are fake Apple and Paypal emails, where they say your account is locked and you need to provide information to unlock it, but if hover over the links they're all gibberish

I received the same e-mail. I think picture hosting sites (i.e., the ones we used to post pics on forums) was hacked. It's the only place I use that username.

I think something else we do need to also do when it comes to email (or any) scams if there are any elderly people in our lives we need to make an even more concerted effort to make sure they do not fall prey to any type of email, phone or mail scam. Even if they get mad or upset at you this population can be even more vulnerable and sometimes need and deserve our protection, especially in these matters.

Me too. The email and pw combo he quoted was only from this site, or from my lock screen, edit - or maybe statue marvels but that's been inert for years.
Very curious.
