Should Spelling count in NON LA subjects?

I think spelling should count in every subject. Some mush head teachers have said it should not count in things like math, social, etc because those are not language arts subjects. I call BS! What say you?

In the real world, when you apply for a job, spelling counts.

Spelling, grammar and diction should count in all subjects as does math in all subjects.

Would an English teacher over look the count of the Iambic Pentameter in a Poem if the student had gotten it wrong since it isn't math they were studying? Would they not correct a sentence that stated that 2+2=5?

It's just laziness at work again and the lack of good teachers in our educational system.

This is true!

I hate texting anyway. I only do so in pressing, emergency situations or when it is not appropriate to call, but need to get the information to the person.

Other then that you will barely ever see me text or respond to one.

thye are doing away with spelling at many highschool and middle schools. it is a great idea. why waste your time on something that will never be used. if you have a job now where you write i would be shocked. 10 years from now i doubt any job exists where you write. it is all done on computers and text can be self fixing if you want it to be.

Yeah to heck with the semantics. No spelling! Music is created via computer too. And you don't have to be able to read music to play music. There is tablature. So let's do away with all those funny symbols with little flags on the tops of them. And that punctuation stuff has to be the first thing to go!
Eg.

Dear John:

I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we’re apart. I can be forever happy—will you let me be yours?

Gloria

Bad Version

Dear John:

I want a man who knows what love is. All about you are generous, kind, thoughtful people, who are not like you. Admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me. For other men, I yearn. For you, I have no feelings whatsoever. When we’re apart, I can be forever happy. Will you let me be?

Yours,

Gloria
Big difference!
