Carol (2015) - In 1950s New York, a department-store clerk who dreams of a better life falls for an older, married woman.
Comparing 2015 retro-romance dramas, I liked Brooklyn more, but there's no denying the great performances by Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. 8/10

Anomalisa (2015) - 4/10
I normally like Charlie Kaufman's films, but this one is nowhere near as original or complex as his others. Anomalisa is astounding in that it is 90 minutes of very lifelike and detailed stop-motion animation (at times, I was wondering if it were actually real performers, or perhaps CGI), but the story is dull, and the message is far too obvious. Such a shame that all that work was put towards extended scenes of puppets having sex and such, rather than beefing up the story.

I would guess the girl-on-girl scene has much male appeal.

That's disappointing because this movie is appearing on many best of 2015 lists.

I thought it was a very interesting movie and would rate it around 7/10.

Trumbo (2015) - In 1947, Dalton Trumbo was Hollywood's top screenwriter, until he and other artists were jailed and blacklisted for their political beliefs.
A good cast elevates an otherwise conventional biopic. 6/10

Re: Anomalisa... It certainly started off as interesting, but my wife and I both figured out what was happening fairly early on and did a good job of guessing the progression of the plot, so from there, it just went downhill for us. What's more: one scene that promised to make the story really interesting turned out to be a dream.
