Ikea Detolf $60 Curio Cabinet and Bowen Busts

How many busts would you safely put in one of these cabinets? I thought they were safe but I've reading some negative comments and I'm starting to get worried. I have 4 mini busts per glass shelf.

I’ve got statues that weigh a lot more than 4 Bowen mini busts on a detolf shelf.

I've seen some pretty heavy statues on peoples' Detolf displays. They seem to hold a decent amount of weight for many years. Use your best judgement. I'd say Bowen mini busts would be fine.

If you want more security, maybe look into ways that could increase the weight threshold.

Very nice. Never saw those before. I need to order a bunch!

Also to OP. I have several things much heavier than Bowen Mini Busts in my Detolfs and they have been fine for several years.

Yes, I saw that video and others recommending the same thing. I was looking into that already but people response assure me I'm not too bad right now. Plus I measured the weight of each bust and at most I have 4 pounds on each glass shelve which is half the 8 pounds maximum.

My Batgirl 66 statue by Tweeterhead weighs about 7 pounds and has been on a Detolf Shelf for a couple years now with no issues.

I've had around 6 or 7 Bowen busts on each of my Detolf shelves for years with no issues.

Glad to help! Here's another video with a lot of additional suggestions, including Pile Weather Stripping to possibly cutting down on dust. On a search and looking at the product, I wonder how effective it would really be and if it would actually attract more dust instead.

Another thing people seem to swear by is doubling up the glass shelves to carry more weight and prevent bowing. Usually people just move around the shelves that came with the Detolf or buy cut glass locally, but I figured Ikea carried extras. I never could find them on the website, but last night I finally found the UTRUSTA glass shelves.

Very nice. I need to order a new shelf. My last move cracked the edge of one and completely shattered another one.Not sure I would need to double them as I have no bowing but a good thing to be able to order more if needed. Much cheaper than getting custom ones cut.

Not so sure about the weather stripping idea either.

you have nothing to worry about with Bowen mini busts on a detolf shelf. You could cram as many of them that fits on a shelf and still be fine
