mech creation questions...

hey guys,
I need information on how to create quality mechs or mechanical vehicles/ robots. what kind of materials used? creation techniques, tools used. so on.
depending on the quality i can produce i plan to make model kits, again something that I would need information on. any help would be appreciated.
